If there was an empty lot(一块地) in your neighborhood, what would you want to turn it into? My American classmates and I from Buchtel High School in Akron, Ohio has turned one such lot into a place of hope.
The empty lot in our neighborhood was like a big mess, full of grass and poison ivy. As a project for the school's biohealth (生物健康) class, we decided to improve the lot. We wanted it to become a space that could improve the mental (心理的) health of people living nearby.
After weeks of designing, researching and making models, we brought our plans to life. Now the lot is a different place. There is a wood walkway leading to a purple bench (长椅). A few beautiful plants are already in the ground. There is also a hopscotch (跳房子游戏) board painted bright blue. On a back fence, you can see a wall painting with words like "Love" and "Peace" and our handprints (手印) on it.
We painted the bench purple because it is a relaxing color. We think kids can go there to sit together, make friends and stay out of trouble. The hopscotch board was created for, a group of 8 to 10 school-age kids who had nowhere to play in the neighborhood.
